WooCommerce Installation and Configuration

Installation of a this plugin follows the mostly universal steps that are used to install any plugin. To further help, below are the three primary methods of installing OpenTickets Community Edition on your site. These instructions assume you:

  1. Possess a basic understanding of WooCommerce concepts, as well as how to create products.
  2. Have either some basic knowledge of the WordPress admin screen or some basic ftp and ssh knowledge.
  3. The ability to follow an outlined list of instructions. ūüėČ

Easy Install

  1. Login to the admin dashboard of your WordPress site.
  2. Click the ‘Plugins‘ menu item on the left sidebar, usually found somewhere near the bottom.
  3. Near the top left of the loaded page, you will see an Icon, the word ‘Plugins‘, and a button next to those, labeled ‘Add New‘. Click ‘Add New‘.
  4. In the ‘Search box’ type ‘Woocommerce‘ and click ‘Search Plugins
  5. Once the results appear, click the ‘Install Now‘ link under the title of ‘WooCommerce excelling eCommerce‘.
  6. Click the ‘Activate plugin‘ link

Medium to Easy Install

  1. Download the plugin from the WooCommerce WordPress Plugin Page
  2. Login to the admin dashboard of your WordPress site.
  3. Click the ‘Plugins‘ menu item on the left sidebar, usually found somewhere near the bottom.
  4. Near the top left of the loaded page, you will see an Icon, the word ‘Plugins‘, and a button next to those, labeled ‘Add New‘. Click ‘Add New‘.
  5. In the top left of this page, you will see another Icon and the words ‘Install Plugins‘. Directly below that are a few links, one of which is ‘Upload‘. Click ‘Upload‘.
  6. On the loaded screen, below the links described in STEP #5, you will see a location to upload a file. Click the button to select the file you downloaded from WordPress.org.
  7. Once the file has been selected, click the ‘Install Now‘ button.
    1. Depending on your server setup, you may need to enter some FTP credentials, which you should have handy.
  8. If all goes well, you will see a link that reads ‘Activate Plugin‘. Click it.
  9. Once you see the ‘Activated‘ confirmation, you will see new icons in the menu.

Advanced Install

  1. Download the plugin from the WooCommerce WordPress Plugin Page
  2. FTP (or SCP) the file you downloaded from WordPress.org to your server. (We assume you know how to do this)
  3. Login to your server via ssh. (…. you know this too).
  4. Issue the command ‘cd /path/to/your/website/installation/wp-content/plugins/‘, where /path/to/your/website/installation/wp-content/plugins/ is the plugins directory on your site.
  5. cp /path/to/woocommerce.2.4.2.zip‘, to copy the downloaded file to your plugins directory (depending upon the version your were installing).
  6. unzip woocommerce.2.4.2.zip‘, to unzip the downloaded file, creating a¬†woocommerce¬†directory inside your plugins directory.
  7. Issue the command ‘rm /path/to/woocommerce.2.4.2.zip‘, to remove the zip file from the filesystem, since it no longer has a purpose.
  8. Open a browser, and follow steps 1-2 under ‘The Easy Way‘ above, to get to your ‘Plugins‘ page.
  9. Find Woocommerce in your plugins list, click ‘Activate‘ which is located directly below the name of the plugin.
  10. Start using OpenTickets Community Edition.

 

Configuring WooCommerce

  1. After you have activated WooCommerce – you will be offered the chance to use a Wizard to set up the configuration that you need. We recommend that you take advantage of this.
  2. If you choose not to use the configuration wizard – in the WordPress Dashboard’s left hand panel click on WooCommerce / Settings.
  3. In the “General” Tab select your Base Location, Selling¬†Countries and Currency – and click Save Changes.
  4. In the “Checkout” Tab – de-select Enable Guest Checkout and make sure the payment methods you want to offer are selected – and click Save ¬†Changes.
  5. If you are only selling tickets, in the “Shipping” tab – de-select Enable Shipping and click Save Changes.
  6. WooCommerce is now set up for you to use with OpenTickets.
